Walking the streets through a suburb of New Orleans (where we stayed in a motel), I followed the music into a park. The park was full of black people of various groups enjoying family reunions. Although I was the only white face for miles, everyone I encountered was either friendly or minded their own business.

One example: I went into a repair shop among a dozen struggling one-man operations to have him grind off some brackets on my car. He squeazed under it (no lift) getting all dirty and sweaty for a half hour. I asked him what I owed when he was done. $20.00! Wow, I said, you really work hard for your money.
Then, I asked him what he thought about the illegals housed at the Expo. Did I ever hit a nerve. What about the homeless Vets, the elderly, and other struggling Mainers?! He really “released the hounds” during that conversation.
Btw, the 9 member City Council is made up of 9 Democrats. As with many large cities across the country, they’re really making their mark and it ain’t good.
