It is believed Adil Khan and Abdul Aziz remain in the town while Abdul Rauf has been photographed shopping for fizzy drinks and carrying a takeaway food bag in Rochdale, even though the vile trio lost their right to remain in the UK three years ago following a long legal battle.
One of their victims, her father, police whistleblower turned campaigner Maggie Oliver, the town’s MP Tony Lloyd, and former chief prosecutor for the north west, Nazir Afzal, have all urged Priti Patel to throw the three Pakistani-heritage men out of the UK.
Taxi driver and Muslim preacher Abdul Rauf, now 52, was one of nine mostly Pakistan-heritage men sentenced in 2012 for their part in the horrific sexual abuse of children in Rochdale and Heywood, with the perpetrators sharing their white victims with other men at sex parties across the north of England.
Rauf was convicted of trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.
The court heard how the father-of-five trafficked a 15-year-old girl for sex, driving her to secluded areas to have sex with her in his taxi and ferry her to a flat in Rochdale where he and others had sex with her. He was jailed for six years but was released in November 2014 after serving two years and six months of his sentence.
In July 2015, The Home Office began the process of removing Rauf’s British citizenship and those of two other men convicted alongside him – Adil Khan, 51 and Abdul Aziz, 50 – who all had dual UK-Pakistani citizenship, in order to pave the way for their deportation.
The trio challenged the move, saying it breached their human rights and the rights of their children. They lost their case at the Court of Appeal in August 2018.
However in July last year the Manchester Evening News reported that it was believed they remained in Rochdale, with one terrified victim bumping into her freed abuser Khan while shopping in Asda.
She saw Khan with another child in an aisle of Asda superstore in Rochdale town centre. She told a friend: “Oh my God, he’s been in Asda. I’ve never been so scared in all my life. I feel like my heart just stopped beating.” Now pictures have emerged of Rauf shopping in the town. He was seen with a takeaway delivery bag and a trolley full of fizzy drinks.
The main victim of the abuse, who was referred to as Girl A in press reports of the 2012 trial, said: “These monsters were told they were going to be deported back to Pakistan in 2015 and yet they are still walking the streets of the town where they abused dozens of girls like me.
“We were told they would be kicked out of the country. Knowing that had been done would have been a huge help for all of us in trying to rebuild our lives. “But instead we’re still haunted by the paedophiles who raped and trafficked us. Every day we run the risk of bumping into these rapists and paedophiles.
“Where’s the justice in that? And where’s the message to the grooming gangs?”
One of the child victim’s father said: “It’s an outrage that these men haven’t been deported as we were promised by several Home Secretaries, including the current one, Priti Patel. Somehow their rights are seen as being more important than the lives and suffering of our daughters. I want to know why? They had an appeal and lost it at a cost of more than a million pounds to the tax-payer. I want to know why they haven’t been deported yet.”
Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd said: “None of the women, who were not much more than children when they were victims of these people, ought to fear that turning a street corner they could face one of their attackers in Rochdale or anywhere else in Britain. That simply should not be allowed to happen.”
“It’s equally the case that successive home secretaries from Theresa May have been adamant that they intended to deport. However, what we have had is stunning silence in action. This comes from a home secretary who has been prepared to deport some people even though there are strong humanitarian cases like mental health (for them to remain). People have been deported for minor criminal offences.
“It’s astonishing Priti Patel has not taken decisive action that her and her predecessors promised. It’s about time they did just that.”

It is amazing how often perpetrators escape deportation, often with the help of locally based NGOs that is. Judges don’t seem to consider rape an offense serious enough for deportation as long as the victim is an indigenous female who can be damaged at leisure.

What does justice mean in the UK where it’s courts’ orders are so easily frustrated or ignored? If foreign offenders are ordered deported then why haven’t they been deported at this point after years of litigation? I used to get ‘all excited’ by ‘deportation’ …… because I (stupidly) thought it meant ‘something’. But in reality it’s all bullshit. It’s like a parking ticket that never gets paid.
