I’ve lived in Japan my entire adult life. It is a very benign police state, but a police state, nonetheless. As long as you obey the rules, the government leaves you alone. Break the rules, and you can be incarcerated for 21 days before being charged with any crime, then another 21 days if they just want to, then they charge you, let you go, or deport you, depending on what you did. Trial by jury is a new, experimental thing that was introduced a few years ago and is not widespread.
Having said that, I hope that Japan stays xenophobic and does not succumb to the diversity trap. And I’m speaking as a non-Japanese. Japan has a lot of problems, but it’s still better than most other countries.

In Japan, if you’re not Japanese, you are essentially nothing. They know how to act politely and make a virtue of it but non-Japanese people are not really human in their view.

Japanese, in general are very polite, but if you rile them, they can be heartless, cruel, and utterly ruthless. And they are capable of gut-wrenching cruelty. The Japanese don’t play. Even though they are in many ways Westernized, they still have the Eastern mentality as many people have in that part of the world. And Eastern people have a hard cruel edge when they are crossed. Obviously that guy molested the wrong somebody, and he is going to pay a steep price.
Don’t know about today, but when I lived in Japan, there was hardly any crime. Even as a young woman, I never feared walking alone in Tokyo or taking the subway at any time of the day or night.
Don’t try that in London or Paris.
Not NYC anymore either.

All the more reason why Japan should not allow Muslims into their country, or allow more mosques to be built. Given their negative population growth, and the vastly superior breeding instincts of Muslims, this kind of ‘treatment’ would not be possible once the Muslim population reaches critical mass.
They know that which is why they rarely issue visas for longer than 6 months and make permanent residency and citizenship virtually impossible. A bigger problem is Japanese citizens who convert to Islam.
Japanese men are often portrayed as very predatory in many manga and anime. I assume Islam is appealing to that fraction of Japanese men that fit that category.
Having lived in Japan, I would say no to that.
Any Japanese citizen who converts to Islam should immediately be put under the care of a qualified psychiatrist, since that person is obviously mentally disturbed.
