OHPIA quick search found a Facebook post promoted by a Palestinian advocacy group sharing a video of David in which he seems to make out that Zionist Youth Movements are the same as Hitler Youth. This is not only a demonization of Zionism, but an example of Holocaust distortion. Of course he does this while speaking “as a Jew”, with a giant label to make this clear, and he goes on to say he is a grand child of Holocaust survivors.
Spevak believes “the real problem is Israel needsto stop murdering people”. This completely ignores the issue of antisemitism, of Jews around the world being targeted by those who oppose Israel’s military actions, or indeed its existence. A response to at attack on a synagogue is entirely about that. He has sought to reframe and blame Israel, encourage a commendation of Israel, and a justification that urges understanding be shown to those who attack Jewish communities.
Spevak says, “We must speak out against what Israel is doing”, adding in a mocking tone, “Not by crying about extra security,” “but by speaking out against Zionism. Because that’s the biggest threat to the Jewish people.” In this he is not just demanding an end to the war, or objecting to Israel’s policies, he is demanding its dismantlement and arguing it is Israel’s existence, and its effects to provide a space place for Jews, and a country with a Jewish culture, just like the 47 countries with a Muslim culture, that is the problem.

Here’s why: Back at the turn of the 20th Century, Jews started immigrating to the US from Russia and Europe. As were many immigrant groups, Jews were not readily accepted, and virtually banned from employment by WASP-run businesses like banking, manufacturing, insurance, etc., despite many of them being highly educated with extensive business experience. So they did what they had to do to survive, selling products from pushcarts in the streets, which led to them starting small business and becoming known for their selling skills.
Despite that, back then neither political party, Democrat or Republican, wanted any part of the Jews, but along came the Liberal Party that was desperate to attract new members, so they reached out to the Jewish immigrants. As a result, Jews became very loyal to the Liberal Party for decades. When the Liberal Party merged with the Democrat Party, Jews became loyal Democrats and stayed that way for many years, up to and including today, having grown up in families who felt indebted to the only party that welcomed them all those years before.
It was just assumed that if you were Jewish, you would vote Democrat, and between 75% and 90% of Jews always did. The election of Mamdani showed the first major demographic change, with only 30% of Jews voting for him.
I grew up in a family that didn’t always vote for Democrats and many times voted Republican. But that was pretty much the exception among most Jews during the 20th Century.
My family reflexively voted for anyone dem0rat. If the Dem0rats had put up Joe Stalin or Adolph Shitler for office they would’ve dutifully and stupidly voted for them, but that was back when the Dem0rat party at least represented the interests of the working men and women citizens of the USA — and they demonstrably don’t anymore yet I still know people who vote against their interests despite all the chicanery and subversion the dem0rat party represent in the 21st century. Maybe civil war is the only option now.
