‘CALIPHORNIA’ on the brink of making two Muslim holidays official “state” holidays while sidelining Christian and Jewish ones

In California, lawmakers are moving forward with a new bill called AB2017. If passed and signed by the governor, the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha would become official state holidays in California. The push for this is the result of the growing alliance between radical Muslim advocacy groups like Hamas-linked CAIR and the anti-Christian/anti-Jewish politicians, mainly on the Left.

CBN Assemblyman Matt Haney rolled out the proposal during Ramadan.”No worker will have to choose between honoring their faith and keeping their job,” he explained. “But recognizing it isn’t just about a date on a calendar. It’s about telling Muslim students, workers, and families across California that their faith, their traditions, and their celebrations matter.”

California MUSLIM State Senator Aisha Wahab sees this move as long overdue. “We have seen the fight of the Black community, of the Latino community, of the Asian community, and so much more. This is no different,” she insisted. “And the fact that we are doing this in 2026, in the state of California, is a shame. It’s a shame that this has not been done already.” If these are recognized as state holidays, schools and community colleges could choose to close on those days.

In a statement, CAIR-CA Legislative & Government Affairs Director Oussama Mokeddem said: “This is a historic moment for California’s over one million Muslims. The climate of heightened fear and anti-Muslim hostility in our country remains a daily reality. In this environment, publicly celebrating these holidays is a powerful way for California to show Muslim constituents that their joy, traditions, and presence in our state are deeply valued and protected.” 

Critics of the proposal argue that California has not granted similar recognition to major Christian or Jewish holy days. Some believe the bill reflects a broader cultural shift in which government leaders are becoming more willing to elevate certain religious voices while overlooking others.

Rabbi Michael Barclay, host of the podcast “The Rabbi’s Table,” believes this is a step too far. “The state of California doesn’t honor any other religion. But now suddenly they’re kowtowing and catering to what is effectively Sharia law,” Barclay said. He believes these holidays shouldn’t be put on the same level as other public celebrations, arguing they’re tied to animal torture and violence.

FOX News “California is home to one of the largest and most vibrant Muslim communities in the country, and their traditions deserve recognition and respect,” Haney said;

“No student should have to choose between celebrating one of the holiest days of their faith and showing up to school, and no worker should feel they have to sacrifice their religious observance,” he continued. “AB 2017 is about making sure Muslim Californians are seen, valued, and treated with the same dignity as every other community in our state.”

But an under-the-radar provision in the bill’s text would bring the celebration of these religious holidays into the classroom and has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative advocacy group. According to the text of AB 2017, public schools opting to observe the days can include exercises “acknowledging and celebrating the meaning and importance” of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

Eid al-Fitr is the celebration following the month of fasting during Ramadan. For Muslims, it’s a time to gather with family and enjoy food and festivities.

On Eid al-Adha, Muslim families around the world take part in animal sacrifices, following a tradition that goes back centuries. Up to 50-million animals are slaughtered worldwide in just one day. Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice is the happiest time of the year for Muslims . This Festival features fully-conscious animals having their throats cut, then hanging them from ropes and leaving them to thrash around and slowly bleed out in pain until death.

It’s called “Qurbani,” where the throats of tied-up, fully-conscious animals are slit – without cutting the spinal cord (unlike Kosher slaughter which requires the spinal cord to be cut so the animal feels no pain). Apparently, Muslims believe that the longer the animal writhes in pain while he is slowly dying, the more of his panic hormones will be released, which allegedly makes the meat taste better.

Even amateurs get to try their hand at Qurbani during EID, where children are encouraged to watch and  participate, which is good training for future jihad activities.
