Left wing liberal comedian Bill Maher is a hero for doing more to educate America about the real Islam than all the right wing bloggers combined
And we know he is having this desired effect because his liberal colleagues and former supporters on the left are ripping him to shreds.
FOX News and conservative bloggers/writers can spend all day, everyday, trying to inform the public about the growing threat that Islam poses to Christians, Jews, and all non-Muslims around the world, but we do not reach the audience that Bill Maher reaches. By opening their minds to a subject the left wing media avoids like the plague, Maher should be praised and emulated by those on the left, not vilified. You don’t have to agree with his politics on any other issue, I don’t, but his relentless and unapologetic criticism of Islam should be embraced by both the right and left.
Apparently his recent 10-second joke on ‘Real Time With Bill Maher,’ about the departure of musician Zayn Malik, a Muslim, from the popular British boy band One Direction was the last straw for the Left.
Several clips of Maher’s anti-Islam views are in the videos below:
After sarcastically dismissing the news blitz regarding Malik’s career move, Maher, who identifies as a “proud liberal,” placed a photo of the pop singer alongside an image of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and asked “Where were you during the Boston marathon?” See clip below:
But the Left didn’t stop there. In this hit piece from the far left rag,Think Progress, they ask, Has Bill Maher finally gone too far? We all know that had Maher made the exact same joke about a Christian, the Left wouldn’t have said a word. Seeing the pontificating and handwringing in the following article about Maher’s ‘Islamophobia’, one would think they are about to tar and feather the guy. These are the same liberals who don’t blink an eye when report after report shows how Muslims persecute and publicly execute homosexuals just for being homosexuals all around the Middle East.
Here’s what they say:
Think Progress Talk-show host Bill Maher stoked controversy again this weekend for making insensitive jokes about Muslims, a familiar story given hisinfamously callous views on Islam. But Maher’s detractors argue his most recent quip is just the latest in a sustained campaign against Islam, and progressives are beginning to speak out against the increasingly offensive rhetoric of the liberal pundit.
Maher has been bashing Muslims since at least 2010:
Maher’s joke immediately set off a firestorm of criticism on Twitter, where Zain’s fans — including many British and American Muslims — chastised Maher using the hashtag #RespectForZayn. Thousands of Zain’s supporters have already signed a Change.org petition insisting Maher apologize for the segment. (Not in the cards, Maher NEVER apologizes for his views on Islam)
Ibrahim ‘Dougie’ Hooper, the spokesperson for (designated terrorist group) Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), echoed the disapproval of Zain supporters, saying Maher’s joke promotes racism and Islamophobia. “This is just another example of [Maher’s] casual racism and anti-Muslim bigotry,” Hooper told ThinkProgress. “It has become part of his public persona, and that’s unfortunate.”
But Hooper also argued that the segment, while offensive on its own, is part of Maher’s unsettling tendency to drum up anti-Islam sentiment within progressive circles — something he said liberals should reject. “He legitimizes Islamophobia on the left,” Hooper said. “I don’t view bigotry or intolerance as liberal or progressive.”
Indeed, while this weekend’s sketch riled a group largely unfamiliar with Maher’s show (Zain fans), he has made bashing Muslims — or Islam in general — a recurring part of his act in recent months. In October of 2014, he called Islam “the only religion that acts like the mafia — that will fuckin’ kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book.” Maher and another guest, prominent author and “New Atheist” Sam Harris, insisted this position was the “liberal” stance, but actor Ben Affleck, another guest on the show who claims to be a “moderately liberal guy,” defended Islam, saying Maher’s comments were “gross” and “racist.”
A month prior, Maher frustrated journalist Charlie Rose (below) by claiming that all of Islam was complicit in the actions of ISIS, the terrorist group currently committing atrocities across the Middle East. Maher said there was “connecting tissue” between ISIS and the broader Muslim world, noting “The Qur’an absolutely has on every page stuff that’s horrible about how the infidels should be treated.”
Maher singled out Islam again in January after the tragic killing of Charlie Hebdo journalists by terrorists who claimed to be acting in the name of Islam. Referencing remarks he made earlier that week on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show, Mahersaid of Islam, “what we’ve said all along, and have been called bigots for it, is when there’s this many bad apples, there’s something wrong with the orchard.”
His criticism of Islam has become so common that students at the famously liberal UC Berkeley campaigned last December to have Maher removed as their college’s commencement speaker, saying his views did not represent those of the graduating class.
The school ultimately allowed him to speak (although several groups protested the administration’s decision), but many progressives remain uncomfortable with Maher’s treatment of Muslims: over the past few months, Maher’s comments about Islam have been criticized by left wing writers at the New York Times, the New Republic, Salon, Daily Kos, andVox, among others.
“While Maher isn’t just the loudest and most candid voice on the left in his bigotry toward Muslims, he is the ideological counterpart to Fox News that helps make hate bipartisan,” Max Fisher wrote at Vox.
Progressives are also concerned about the growing popularity of Maher’s perspective among liberals. Last week Cenk Uygur, speaking on his popular left-wing show The Young Turks, railed against what he called the “Sam Harris, Bill Maher” wing of progressivism for their anti-Islam views. He compared Islamophobia to McCarthyism, or the anti-communist paranoia of the 1950s, explaining that while he shares Maher’s distaste for religion (Uygur, like Maher, is a proud atheist), he cannot abide mistreatment of Muslims in the name of liberalism.(Probably because his background is Turkish)
“They think that they’re liberals, this whole Sam Harris, Bill Maher wing,” Uygur said. “You want to call yourself a liberal? You don’t know what a fuckin’ liberal is. You want to call yourself a progressive? You’re not remotely progressive … You’re a foaming at the mouth neoconservative, and, yes, you’re discriminating against [Muslims].”
The Left’s criticism of Maher isn’t limited to his disparagement of Islam, as his fellow progressives have long accused him of of being insensitive, racist, and ultimately self-defeating as a liberal. In 2010, he drew fire for joking that President Barack Obama was not acting like a “real” black president, wishing aloudthat he would “[show up] in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt so you can see the gun in his pants.”
In almost all of these instances, as with his anti-Islam comments, Maher defended himself by citing free speech, a closely-held liberal value. But his critics — especially those on the Left — are becoming less and less enthused with his exclusionary brand of humor, and many are determined to fight fire with fire.
“The only way to challenge hate speech is with more speech promoting tolerance,” Hooper said. “He has a right to be a bigot if he wants, but we have the right to speak out against his bigotry.”
I may not like some of the things Maher says about Jews and Christians but I totally believe in his right to say them. His art of comedy helps ALL of us to not take ourselves too seriously. I just hope he doesn’t get blown up for making jokes about islam as that is a real possibility. Ben Affleck and others like him should let a hoard of muzzies live in their neighborhood and try to impliment sharia laws there, but, yeah, he and his family prefer their rose colored bubble.
I have to admit that I do get concerned for him when I see the comments he makes. I would simply put NOTHING past the fiendish Muzzies to silence him, I looked up to see if he was married with kids and thankfully he isnt.
These monsters dont fool around, and I would be afraid that he might have a ‘tragic accident’ somehow.
Maher rightfully knows that some kind of war……civil unrest….something is going to happen…. I am soooo glad he fearlessly speaks out. Dougie Hooper and his Muzzies allies must despise him because he reaches their usual audience….clueless, progressive, young liberals.
If Maher ever stops speaking out ,we will all sadly know they got to him or someone he cares about.
Maher is reaching the same low information demographic who get their “news” from The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert and are not learning about the realities of Islam elsewhere. His positive influence is huge.
Afflecks a dick. alot of these ‘actors’ live in there little bubble. have they ever bin to muslim land or seen this web site. they so indenial and pc its sick.
People like Ben Affleck prefer ignorance of things like Islam because they want to keep their minds in a safe little bubble. They also know they need for their “brand” needs to stay as marketable to the ignorant masses in order to sell as many tickets as possible and to keep residuals coming in. Just like Nicole Kidman (Kitman). People like these and other islamic apologists and “moderate muslims” are most of the problem with mass importation of islam and denial of Israel’s right to Nationhood. They are clueless as to what the future holds if they keep it up. Most muslims, even moderate ones contribute, at least indirectly to jihadist causes due to their spending habits and many muslim charities that end up as money laundering for jihad causes.
The video with the bagheads interviewing the comedian was quite entertaining, and those three women did seem to have a little sense of humor, albiet, it was in the context of that more liberal seeming environment. It wouldn’t have been on a TV program, however, in some place like Iran or Afganistan, but in a court where there’d be no joking and laughing, only hostile condemnation, a verdict of blasphemy, and a possible, no, a likely death sentence. That is, if the “guilty” even suvived to be “tried”.
All of this crap about “islamophobia” is invented to exploit an underlying belief in Marxist social conflict theory. Will this Marxism and Communism that’s culturally invaded society ever go away? The strategy of the jihadis is to exploit this stupidity in our society to claim to be the victim “proletariat” so that idiot cultural Marxists will help them with their jihad against the infidel “bourgeoisie”.
Unfortunately the cultural Marxists seem to be too stupid to realize that they ARE the infidel “bourgeoisie”.
Notice how Islamist use the word Honor, why honor Bill Maher for pointing out Islam practices honor killings, rather then recognize Islam practices honor killings is indicative of what Islam is, freedom and Islam have nothing in common hence we have Islamist focusing on dominating those that dare speak truthfully labeling them bigots while the Islamist won’t deal with the victims of honor killings, its their way of getting air time when in reality Islamic issues should begin with a calling to ban Islam from civilized societies.
I am also,a liberal, most of the time, except when it comes to Islam Bill Maher is so correct about Islam, and bashes this deadly cult with humor! I love it! The Dior fashion show was so true! Who else would have the nerve to say and do what Maher does? I wonder how many death threats Maher gets every day for telling the truth about Islam?
Bonnie I would just like to alert you to this article.PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD: Globally, Common Core originated from the “One World Education” concept, a global goal orchestrated by the Connect All Schools program. Its origin is funded by the Qatar Foundation International (QFI). The director of QFI’s Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics is Tariq Ramadan, grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder, Hassan al-Banna.
I like Bill’s humor and wit …. and welcome to the fight …. but, I celebrate all our warriors …. not just liberal come latelys …. Bibi has to engage many people …. he doesn’t always have the luxury of dealing with people he likes …. that’s a sign of his great leadership …. he’s above professional jealousy …. his cause is too important …. I would like to hear some kind words for Rush and Glen …. they were in the good fight before this Dapper Dan Bill Maher ?
Maher apologize because of a petition? HA! Good luck with that. And for you Muslims reading this, and I know you do, I have a lot of liberal friends and family and they all despise you as much as I do. Often Islam transcends political affiliation. You’re just that hated. Take you petitions and you boo-hooing and shove them up your……
The majority of those petition signators were NOT Berkeley Students. They were a bunch of outsiders who “rallied to the cause “! The majority of the graduating class DID want him there. Last I knew it was not the decision of a bunch of outsiders to choose who speaks at someone else’s graduation which is a “by invitation only ” event! If they want to choose a speaker, then perhaps they should hit the books and put the effort forth to actually be ADMITTED to Berkeley, let alone graduate. Otherwise, they should STFU!!! Maybe they wouldn’t be so butt hurt if they’d stop waving their asses around in the air in everyone else’s faces! We here (the legitimate student body) can think for ourselves, see what they tried to bully us into and basically told them that. That the majority of the students wanted him disinvited is just more propaganda being fed by these arse wavers and their ignorant Hollywood butt kissing friends.
It’s reassuring to hear that the “majority of those petition signators were NOT Berkeley Students.” Makes sense too: one thing they’re good at is organizing their damn protests everywhere. Thankfully, they lost that one. (As for those waving asses, I’ve always thought that they make inviting targets for a friendly boot, kind of look like footballs lined up to be place-kicked or something.)
“Ibrahim ‘Dougie’ Hooper, the spokesperson for (designated terrorist group) Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), echoed the disapproval of Zain supporters, saying Maher’s joke promotes racism and Islamophobia. “This is just another example of [Maher’s] casual racism and anti-Muslim bigotry,” ”
So, how stupid is this white Dougie Hooper guy (a muslim) , if he thinks islam is a race?
What struck me most is that all rather vague criticisms, sometimes just directed at Bill Maher himself – “he’s … a neoconservative”, he “shows bigotry toward muslims” or his comments are “gross” and “racist” as Afleck said. WHY?! His critics throw out generalities without any specifics. But obviously they think just criticizing the sacred cow of islam is a big crime for some strange reason.
They never address the substance of his remarks – because what he says is true. So in typical “progressive” fashion, they essentially fall back on name calling, because the facts are against them.
With you Bonni (always)! Yes, Bill has been slagging the Satanic Death Cult for as long as I can remember! Even Ann Coulter used to shag him! (For my American friends, that is UK slang for “slept with him”…). So yes, for all of Bills leftist faults, he remains One of Us
Ann Coulter? Really? Now *that’s* interesting. Hmmm, maybe that explains why he’s betraying his liberal friends (at least in this one area – islam). Can you catch that horrible malady, conservatism, in the bedroom? (Watch out, Bill, it’s a chronic disease – you’ll be voting Republican before you know it!) As for her, well, no doubt she’s talented and smart. And I love it that the Left hates her. But personally, I never really warmed to her, conservative or not – she always struck me as rather arrogant.
But they certainly would have made an interesting couple, with their strong views and mercurial personalities. (The question is, how could they both have fitted into the same room together – along with their respective egos?)
