The pronounciation of ‘ Uyghur” was hard to find. The McMillan Dictionary (Google toolbar version) says there aint no such word, But the Random House College Dictionary says the word is “Uygur” (no H) Anyhow, the RH book has the pronounciation as “E-goor”(long E, and Goo, as in merengue on your shirt cuff. (incedently, the book defines merengue as a Hatitian dance, not the stuff on a lemon pie. — confusin’, aint it ?)
Anyway, the word is pronounced “EE-Goor, Not Igor as in Dr Frankensteins helper, and it does not rhyme with a universally known racial slur. Aintcha glad to know that ?

I’m not going to praise Chinese tyranny here. Red China isn’t as horrendous as it was when Mao ran the place, but it’s still a country where just being nonconformist is a reason for them to round you up. Consider how much Obama loves their ways and means, and that’s reason enough to be disgusted. Just call me tired and fed-up with choosing sides between two evils.

Something else pertaining to China that you won’t find in the news. When I was in Hunan province (the city of Changsha), all of us foreigners studying Chinese were forced to live on campus this year. We were also subject to a strict curfew. This was different from years past. We were allowed to rent apartments, and just basically do whatever we wanted during our off time.
So why the changes? Why the curfew and strict rules?
When I asked about this….big surprise….it’s cuz there was an epidemic of students from arab countries going around beating and raping chinese girls…
