A Pakistani Muslim doctor and former Mayo Clinic research coordinator, Muhammad Masood (below), 28, has been arrested in Minnesota on terrorism charges, after prosecutors say he told paid FBI informants that he had pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) group and wanted to carry out lone wolf terror attacks in the United States.
MPR News Muhammad Masood, 28, was arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Thursday by FBI agents and was charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
According to the allegations in the complaint, Masood, a licensed medical doctor in Pakistan, was formerly employed as a Research Coordinator for a medical clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, under an H-1B Visa. Between January 2020 and March 2020, Masood made several statements to others, including pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) and its leader, and expressing his desire to travel to Syria to fight for ISIS.
Prosecutors say Masood was in the U.S. on a work visa. They allege that starting in January, Masood made several statements to paid informants — whom he believed were members of the Islamic State group — pledging his allegiance to the group and its leader. He also allegedly expressed his desire to travel to Syria to fight for ISIS and a desire to carry out lone wolf attacks in the U.S.
He explained that he wanted to make the trip because he “hates smiling at the passing kuffar just to not make them suspicios.” The affidavit said kuffar is an Arabic term meaning nonbeliever or non-Muslim. Masood also allegedly told the informant he wanted help getting to the front lines. When the informant said Masood might have to kill people, Masood replied, “I want to kill and get killed … and kill and get killed.”
At one point, Masood messaged an informant “there is so much I wanted to do here … lone-wolf stuff you know … but I realized I should be on the ground helping brothers sisters kids,” according to an FBI affidavit.
Minnesota U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald said Masood bought a plane ticket on Feb. 21 to travel from Chicago to Amman, Jordan, and then planned to go to Syria from there. He had planned to leave at the end of March. But on March 16, he had to change his travel plans because Jordan closed its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic. Masood and one of the informants then developed a plan for him to fly from Minneapolis to Los Angeles to meet with that informant, whom Masood believed would help him travel in a cargo ship into Islamic State territory.
Masood was arrested Thursday at the airport after he checked in for his flight to Los Angeles. He worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. since February of 2018, first as a research trainee, but has been a clinical research coordinator since May.
Roughly three dozen Minnesota Muslims have left Minnesota since 2007 to join al-Shabab in Somalia or militant groups in Syria, including the Islamic State group. Several other Muslims have been convicted on terrorism-related charges for plotting to join or provide support to those groups.

I have a good friend who was seeing a Muslim physician in an Islamic run clinic in an Ontario, Canada city.

He went there suffering from symptoms of congestive heart failure…i.e. shortness of breath, swelling of his legs and feet, skin turning cyan colour…any first aider should be aware of these symptoms…they are very basic, rudimentary and first line indicators of congestive heart failure.
They kept on telling him he would be okay and I’m not even sure if the prescribed any diuretics to combat his fluid retention…this went on for several weeks…until he finally had the shits of it, and changed doctors, where they promptly issued the correct diagnosis, and he was treated accordingly, but was tested as a critical heart patient, suffered a few mini strokes before he had to go for triple bypass open heart surgery…saving his life.
We discussed his situation and he knows exactly how I feel about Muslims and he is also becoming a believer…but he told me he mentioned the fact that he had been a client of this particular Muslim Clinic to the staff of the new clinic he attended…and expressed a viable concern about their lack of diagnostic acumen and their apparent failure to diagnose such a basic symptom of chronic heart disease.
The staff at his new clinic admitted they had heard nothing but negative and disturbing reports and complaints about the Muslim run clinic…and they agreed with my friend’s concerns…yet they did nothing to discredit the Muslim controlled clinic or did any pro-active movement to put them out of business or shut them down. My friend said they more or less just shrugged their shoulders…BELOVED JESUS!!!!!!
I hazard to guess the Ontario Medical Association are just as slimy as the Roman Catholic Church has been in that they will circle their wagons rather than bring any dishonour or discredit to their particular professional organization…
But of course, the OMA would be galvanized with terror at the risk of being called Islamophobic or some such shit if they attempted to call these Islamic snakes to task…ESPECIALLY IN CANADA!!!

Someone who is or was a patient should file a written complaint. It’s the only way, the same as with lawyers and the Bar Association. In the USA, it’s the College of Physicians. In Ontario or Canada, there is an entity that can investigate the doctor and the Clinic.
As a bonus, the complainant will have backup confirmation through the new clinic.

I have read that as many as 10% of US Doctors are Muslim. If that is so and you don’t want to see one make it very clear to to your PCP prior to a referral about your preferences. I have done so and that has worked out well. However, I think I am likely considered a PIA. So be it.
