In March of 2021, a British teacher showed a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed during a religious studies lesson at Batley Grammar School, after which he became the target of death threats by outraged Muslims. Two year later, he remains in hiding over safety concerns after being cleared of causing deliberate offense. But now, an Imam in Birmingham is demanding legal action against this teacher because he claims the non-Muslim teacher blasphemed against Islam.
Former MEP Ben Habib says: “It’s a very worrying development that we can’t go back to expressing ourselves freely, teaching freely without fearing the backlash.” Kevin O’Sullivan argues: “This Imam seems to believe that some kind of British law been broken here; well, it might break Sharia law, but no British law has been broken.”
