Hundreds of Democrat-aligned organizations have signed onto a petition urging President Joe Biden to uphold his campaign promise to abolish the death penalty by commuting the sentence of every death row inmate, writing it is “not too late to act decisively.”
On the day of the Boston Marathon bombings, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan (below), detonated two pressure cooker bombs packed with shrapnel near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
Three people were killed and more than 260 others were injured, including at least 15 who ultimately lost limbs. A 26-year-old MIT officer was also later killed.
The FBI released surveillance images of the suspects but the two men remained at large for nearly a week before Tsarnaev was found wounded in a boat after a violent confrontation with police that had killed his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty of all 30 counts against him for his involvement in the Boston Marathon bombing. Seventeen of the counts against Tsarnaev, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, qualify him for the death penalty.
He was sentenced to death for his role in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. The Supreme Court upheld his sentence in 2022 after it was tossed out by a federal appeals court, which had called the attack Tsarnaev perpetrated alongside his brother “one of the worst domestic terrorist attacks” since 9/11.
Daily Caller (h/t Marvin W) Manhattan Institute fellow Charles Fain Lehman told the Daily Caller News Foundation commuting all death sentences would be a “repudiation of the mandate the American people just gave” by electing President Donald Trump.
“Joe Biden had four years to enact a mass executive clemency,” Lehman said. “He did not do it. To do it on his way out would be preposterous. It would be particularly preposterous because it would mean giving executive clemency to people that every right thinking American agrees deserves to be put to death.”
Trump has said he wants to expand the use of the death penalty in certain cases, such as for child rapists, drug dealers and illegal migrants who kill U.S. citizens.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is also circulating a petition to commute federal death sentences that does not mention why inmates on death row were convicted, which include crimes of mass shootings, brutal murders and kidnappings.

Regarding Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, people get murdered in prison all the time. What’s the hold up?
Rebel Patriot says
Execute them first, then release them to the democrat/leftists to take care of them.

I always thought there should be a special privilege afforded to all those sentenced to death for terrorism.
To help preserve their bodies in their unmarked graves, I think they should be wrapped in pigskins.

The appeals process in capitol offenses is ridiculous. New laws should be enacted, that limits appeal to one year from the date of sentencing.

I support capital punishment. If not, these monsters almost always get out of prison. The Palestinian who killed Bobby Kennedy almost got out of prison a couple of years ago. I’ll bet he tries again. Also, the Menedez brothers are also trying to get out of jail, too.
They also released all of the Manson family except Manson and one woman. Everyone else was released from prison. Even Hinkley was released.
Condor 18 says
All executions should move forward as scheduled. The only exceptions should be if new and convincing evidence is found.
