British professor falsely accused of so-called Islamophobia — but cleared of any wrongdoing by the university — has claimed that he sometimes has to wear a disguise and carry a weapon due to death threats against him by Muslims as he blasts ‘woke’ students for putting his life at risk and ruining his reputation.
Daily Mail Steven Greer is a professor of human rights at University of Bristol Law School who in Feb. 2022 was appointed a visiting research fellow at the Oxford Institute for British Islam, an independent Muslim public policy think tank, according to a law school news release.
University of Bristol investigated Greer for a violation of the United Kingdom’s Equality Act after Muslim students objected to comments he made during class involving Islam, the Times UK reported Feb. 13., adding he was cleared of all allegations after an investigation over several months.
Even so, Greer told The Times he was forced to leave his home and disguised himself outside with “a long beard, false glasses and a hoodie, and began carrying a ‘sturdy’ umbrella and a screwdriver for defense.”
The Equality Act, under which Greer was accused of wrongdoing, prohibits “direct and indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation” for those “who are perceived to have, or are associated with, someone who has, a protected characteristic,” such as religion, according to gov.uk.
Professor Greer, who was exonerated of all wrongdoing by an inquiry last year, has now accused Left-wing and Muslim activists of putting the lives of academics such as himself at risk, and warned a ‘Woke Inquisition’ could ‘dumb down degree courses at many of the UK’s finest institutions’.
‘Cancel culture is fast becoming the scourge of academia. A climate of fear is already replacing an environment of free, critical inquiry. The lecturer said academics were ‘already self-censoring’ because they were afraid of being falsely branded as ‘hostile to minorities including gays, transsexuals and Muslims’ by ‘woke student campaigners’.
Almost overnight my name became synonymous with bigotry, racism and Islamophobia – especially on social media – because of a handful of malicious students who set out to ruin my life. ‘I was vilified and my name and reputation were dragged through the mud.
‘For my own safety, I was forced to act like a fugitive for including academically authoritative, fact-based information in my course that a few militant students took objection to. ‘My case is not the first of this kind and nor, sadly, is it likely to be the last.
Allegations of Islamophobia were first made against Prof Greer after he used a teaching slide that mentioned the 2015 terror attack on the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, a magazine that had published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. The slide was described as having ‘Islamophobic rhetoric.’ It was also alleged that he had once laughed at a passage from the Quran in a seminar.
Additionally, a lecture that included ‘well-attested observations’ about the inferior treatment of women and non-Muslims in Islamic states and the tough penalties handed out under Sharia law was slated as ‘bigoted and divisive’.
A five-month inquiry led by a senior academic at Bristol University found each of the accusations to be baseless. An independent KC appointed during the inquiry also found Prof Greer was not guilty of harassment.
But the ‘scurrilous falsehoods by a handful of illiberal and Muslim students’ led to the removal of the material from the course and left him fearing for his reputation and his life. Professor Greer was so scared for his own safety that he went into hiding.
The allegations against the professor were first levelled in October 2020 when Bristol University’s Islamic Society (BRISOC) made a formal complaint, alleging multiple counts of Islamophobia in his teaching and other public output.
University bosses also dropped his course on Islam, which dealt with Sharia law penalties and the treatment of women and non-Muslims in Islamic countries, among other topics, so Muslim students would ‘not feel that their religion is being singled out or in any way “othered” by the class material’.
His memoir, Falsely Accused of Islamophobia: My Struggle Against Academic Cancellation, was released this week.

No-way. Absolutely no way in hell would I live any place that does not allow me to carry a firearm on my side. Or, rifles, or shotguns in any of our vehicles. Be it in either one of our SUV Or either one of our Ford F-250 4×4 Pickup’s. Firearms, Are a way of life Here in Alaska. Just as much as hunting is for many men / teenagers. And they are in many locales here in America.

it’s hard to believe just how much the united kingdom has changed since the days of Churchill since the end of, WW2. About 7 or 8 years ago there was a Muslim student on some type of student exchange program or another at the college in Missoula Montana, and he wound up hitting on the wrong Born and raised white Montana girl. After she got through telling him just what she thought of him and of course he called her racist. Then she said,
“You bet I am, and you’re beneath me. I don’t date outside of my race.”
He wound up slapping her around and that was a tremendous mistake he made. BIG TIME MISTAKE HE MADE. Her boyfriend played on the football team and him and a couple of other guys wound up beating him so bad, and I say rightfully so, they put him in a ICU Unit for over 3 months.
